The “Self Appointed Fiduciary”

So a few days ago we had a Police Sergeant from Massachusetts plead guilty on an array of accounts. Such as stealing funds from the accounts of disable veterans, as he acted as the appointed fiduciary.

The name of the culprit was Glenn Pearson, who is 61 years old and worked for the Whitman Police Department. About 16 years ago he was dismissed for breaches of police codes of conduct. As well as improper arrest, sexual harassment, untruthfulness and even falsifying payrolls.

From 2007 to 2012 Pearson became a Department of Veterans Affairs fiduciary for multiple disabled veterans and managed their funds. During this time Pearson took advantage of his position and embezzled over $250,000 of benefits money award to the veterans by Veterans Affairs.

He even went one step further and operated a “tax preparation” business called FTS Tax Services, this is where he falsely prepared tax returns for clients in return for a fee. After a while though his clients were audited by the IRS, from there Pearson gave falsified statements to the IRS.

As of now he faces a max sentence of 20 years for wire fraud. An additional three years for trying to interfere with the administration of internal revenue laws. Another three years for making and also providing false tax returns. Lastly 5 years for misappropriation of funds.

Pearson admitted to causing over $1 million in tax loss, and has supposedly agreed to a plea deal. Which will be to make restitution to the veterans whom he stole from as well as Veterans Affairs Administration and the Internal Revenue Service.

As of now he’s set to be released Sept. 19th.

Hard-charges it would behoove of you to not only be a better judgment of character but also you may want to do a bit of research because you can do your taxes yourself or hire a reputable accountant.

Refugee Plan?

Good day Hard-Chargers!

About a month ago, President Barrack Obama, designated up to $70 million from specific funds in order to address the “urgent refugee and migration needs.”

This money is being used due to the President’s commitment of bringing 85,000 refugees from around the world to the United States.

Which is up from 70,000 last year. It’s said that the money was taken from a fund in congress. This fund is specifically made for emergencies with refugees.

The intended recipients of the aid, geographic targets, and locations, are not specified. It is said however, that the money is being used to pay for up to 10,000 refugees.

Including migrants coming from Iraq, Syria and others seeking humanitarian relief.

Obama said that the money is used for the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. The House Of Representatives approved legislation that called for a pause in the program.

This allows refugees in the United States from Iraq and Syria and other countries, senate has not yet acted on this.

 

70 million people travel to the U.S. every year.

A senior official in the white house stated that people, are vetted in a program that can at times be two years, before they are allowed in the United States.

Lets hope this is for the good cause and these refugees, aren’t here to harm others.

Canada Welcomes Refugees

How we doing today Hard-Chargers!

So Canada welcomes Syrian refugees in the amount of 10,000, the minister commented by stating “we plan on integrating those who have arrived and are currently working to bring in upwards of thousands.

Originally the government pledged to bring in 25,000 refugees by 2015, that goal was later adjusted to 10,000 by the end of the year.

January 1st 2016, The Canadian Press reported that over 6,000 refugees had arrived under the Liberal commitment, in addition to the 1200 who’d been settled under the previous Conservative Government.

Two weeks later the government announced that it reached a pretty significant milestone.

Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship John McCallum commended the many Canadians who have helped bring over the refugees.

“Many people have worked day and night to bring these refugees to Canada – and Canadians have opened their communities and their hearts to welcome them,”

McCallum also stated. “Canada continues to set an international example with its response to the worst refugee crisis of our time.”

Since coming into power, the Liberal government has worked tirelessly with the United Nations to help resettle refugees living in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey.

Sponsors who will remain anonymous have pitched in as well as religious organizations and also cultural groups and local Canadians.

In parts of Germany on New Year’s Eve there were reports of sexual assault, protests took place and the questions were raised whether western countries can integrate mass newcomers.

Germany has accepted over a million refugees, Canada again only plans to bring in about 25,000, with that being said they hope to not run into the problems that Germany currently deals with.

Canada is able to carefully screen refugees and only welcome “select” newcomers, while Germany on the other hand has more-so an open-door policy towards migrants fleeing through Europe.

Let’s hope that they (Canada) make out well, on allowing others to enter, I think I speak for everyone when I say if things go wrong we (America) will be ready to point and say, I told you so.

Understanding ISIS

Good day Hard-Chargers!

Many are still a bit confused as to what ISIS stands for and where it even originated, many only know that it is a terrorist group.

ISIS stands for Islamic State in Iraq and Syria because the group’s territory straddles the border between the two countries. ISIL stands for Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant.

The Levant is the historic name given to the entire region east of the Mediterranean from Egypt, east to Iran and to Turkey.

ISIS, or the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, was regarded by the west as a terrorist organization even before it began its murderous rampage across the Middle East.

Initially called al-Qaeda in Iraq, it became ISIS or ISIL in 2013, and then Islamic State after it claimed to have established a caliphate at the end of last summer.

Cities where ISIS has taken control are bleak, with public executions, beheadings, kidnap, amputations, torture and beatings among tactics used to maintain control.

ISIS has long targeted journalists and activists, and has been known to use suicide attacks and land mines against its opposition. 

Caliphate

Being that caliphate was established, Islamic State now believes that it is the duty of all Muslims to emigrate to it and renounce citizenship of any other nation.

It regards any form of government other than its own as anathema to Islam. Islamic State’s leaders believe they are on course for an apocalyptic battle with their enemies, from which they will emerge victorious.

They fortell by saying “the armies of Rome [usually interpreted as any Christian or non-Islamic force] will mass to meet the armies of Islam in northern Syria; and that Islam’s final showdown with an anti-Messiah will occur in Jerusalem after a period of renewed Islamic conquest.”

Islamic State supporters actively welcome the prospect of western intervention, which they believe will hasten their own final victory.

Many ask if ISIS began as al-Qaeda and the answer is yes, however they were rejected last year, al-Qaeda feels that the group is too brutal and its focus on establishing a caliphate has distracted from the push in Syria to bring down President Assad.

Head of Islamic State

This would be no other than, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi who is now seen as one of the most powerful jihadi leaders in the world.

He took over as leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq in late 2010 after its former leader was killed in an attack by U.S. Iraqi troops.

He insists on extreme secrecy, he is however believed to be in his 40’s with degree in Islamic Studies including poetry, history and genealogy.

He was born in Samarra a large Sunni city state north of Baghdad, he was also held prisoner by American Bocca Camp in southern Iraq between 2005-2009.

Leadership in the terrorist group are damn near exclusively made up of Iraqis, it has however gained thousands of volunteers from across the Middle East and the West.

US intelligence officials have previously said there are around 31,000 ISIS militants, with two thirds comprising foreign fighters. Kurdish leaders claim the total figure is much higher at around 200,000.

How ISIS is funded

ISIS made money through oil smuggling in Syria, racketeering and kidnappings, also through donations from private jihadi networks in the Gulf.

Word has it that militants seized oilfields in Syria’s Deir Ezzor province made alliances with certain tribes to extract oil and were believed to be extorting taxes up to $8 million a month from businesses in Mosul before it took over.

The group also looted money from the city’s banks making it the richest terrorist group in the world.

The group is responsible for over 10,000 operations in Iraq alone in 2013, with over 1000 assassinations and over 4000 improvised explosive devices planted.
